I think the AC on max is sucking air from the passenger area making a vacuum, and pulling the gas smell in from the fill tube. When you use the vent, you are pulling air in from outside, not creating a vacuum. _____ Venting hoods attach to outside ports and are capable of filtering out more smoke, bad smells, and grease from a kitchen.
