• Jun 25, 2019 · Some of them are stalwart cartridges we would expect for western big game hunting like .300 Win Mag and .280 Ackley Improved while others are newer to the game like 6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor. Does this rifle look like something you would entertain on a hunt out west?
  • Jun 20, 2018 · 6.5 Creedmoor is a lame imitation of the .260 Remington which accomplished fitting the 6.5×55 Swede into a .308 magazine over a decade earlier. The only thing the Creedmoor has going for it is a savvy marketing plan and a bunch of suckers with more money than brains.

  • I'm in the process of converting a Kimber 8400 WSM 300 WSM to 6.5 PRC and have been running some numbers. The .280 AI is a great hunting cartridge for sure, and the 6.5 PRC is being touted as primarily a PRS cartridge, but I wanted to see if the PRC makes sense as a hunting round.

The rifle will be off to the gunsmith again shortly and it'll be 260AI this time. If the chubby firing pin weren't an issue it'd be 6.5 Creedmoor using Lapua SRP brass, but bushing etc is a job and expense too many. If I were restricted to magazine COALs it'd still be 6.5 Creedmoor, but using Norma LRP brass (very good quality indeed).
